Pancreatitis can range from acute to chronic in its symptoms and severity. And its symptoms vary depending on the type.
Acute Pancreatitis:
Patients with acute pancreatitis may suffer from rapid pulse rate, abdominal pain, fever, nausea and vomiting. (Medicinenet.com) Most symptoms of acute pancreatitis go away on their own after a few hours or days. Most cases go untreated, as they can easily be confused as with a bad stomach bug. However, if symptoms stay longer than a few days, chronic pancreatitis may be the real issue.
Chronic Pancreatitis:
Patients with chronic pancreatitis can suffer from the same symptoms as acute pancreatitis patients only worse. Symptoms of chronic pancreatitis include; losing weight without trying, bloody and/or oily stools, abdominal pain that worsens after eating. (Mayoclinic.org). If the case of chronic pancreatitis continues for a substantial amount of time, a persons risk of getting pancreatic cancer or diabetes increases.
